Microsoft’s My Phone application fills a need for me after recently being laid off from my job with Sprint. I’ve grown accustomed to automatic contact, calendar and data back ups, so my recent lack of MS Exchange has been a little scary because I’m used to having important information always up to date and in real time on my phone.
My Phone, which recently entered public beta, syncs to Microsoft’s servers. The free service gives you 200MB of storage - plenty of space for contacts and calendars - but there are options for backing up all your files, so if you have video or music files on your phone, beware!
The application crashed the first time I attempted to sync my phone. Checking the online storage, a number of files had been successfully backed up and on the second attempt, everything worked perfectly.
Of course, this is all just fun for me because when my Sprint phone benefit runs out (soon), I’m probably going to end my long time iPhone envy by getting one… unless someone at Sprint decides I should have a Palm Pre! :-)
